Description

Warm, inviting, and perfectly spiced, these Apple Butter Cinnamon Rolls are a delightful treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup apple butter
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it blooms, becoming foamy and fragrant.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a separate mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Mix the dough: Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead: On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Roll out the dough: Turn it out onto a floured surface and roll into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  8. Spread the apple butter over the rolled dough, leaving a small border. Sprinkle ground cinnamon on top.
  9. Roll tightly from one end into a log shape, sealing the edges.
  10. Slice into 1-inch thick rolls and place them in a greased baking dish.
  11. Second rise: Cover the rolls and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
  12. Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  13. Make the glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
  14. Drizzle the glaze over warm rolls and serve fresh out of the oven.

Notes

Make-ahead tips: Prepare the dough the night before and refrigerate shaped rolls. Let sit at room temperature for an hour before baking.
