A timeless Bolognese sauce rich with flavor, perfect for pairing with pasta or gnocchi.
Ingredients

- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, finely chopped
- 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
- 1 pound ground beef or pork
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1/2 cup red wine
- Pasta or gnocchi for serving
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat until shimmering.
- Sauté the chopped onion, minced garlic, carrot, and celery for about 5–7 minutes, until softened.
- Cook the ground beef or pork until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. If using red wine, pour it in now.
- Simmer gently for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Serve over pasta or gnocchi and enjoy!
Notes
Bolognese sauce can be made ahead of time. Refrigerate overnight for the best flavor.
