Description

A timeless Bolognese sauce rich with flavor, perfect for pairing with pasta or gnocchi.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef or pork
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1/2 cup red wine
  • Pasta or gnocchi for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat until shimmering.
  2. Sauté the chopped onion, minced garlic, carrot, and celery for about 5–7 minutes, until softened.
  3. Cook the ground beef or pork until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
  4. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. If using red wine, pour it in now.
  5. Simmer gently for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Serve over pasta or gnocchi and enjoy!

Notes

Bolognese sauce can be made ahead of time. Refrigerate overnight for the best flavor.
