Description

A delightful brunch dish combining the flavors of classic crème brûlée and French toast with a crispy caramelized topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of brioche bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Sugar for caramelizing on top
  • Butter for greasing the pan

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and generously grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Slice the brioche bread into thick pieces, about 1 to 1.5 inches thick.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until combined and fluffy.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, gently pressing the slices down.
  5. Cover your dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes until golden and slightly jiggly in the center.
  7. Sprinkle a thin layer of sugar over the top and use a kitchen torch to caramelize.
  8. Serve warm, optionally with powdered sugar or fresh berries.

Notes

For a vegan version, use plant-based milk and cream and flax eggs.
