Description

Freshly fried, crisp, and golden-brown beer-battered onion rings that offer a delightful crunch and sweet onion flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large yellow onions, sliced into rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beer (lager or pilsner)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Oil for frying
  • Dipping sauce of choice

Instructions

  1. Slice the onions into rings about 1/4-inch thick and gently separate each ring.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl.
  3. Pour in the beer gradually, mixing until the batter is smooth and velvety.
  4. Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 365°F (185°C).
  5. Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip back into the bowl.
  6. Place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, frying in batches until golden brown and crisp, approximately 2-3 minutes.
  7. Remove the rings from the oil using a slotted spoon and let drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve them hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For a lighter option, try air frying the battered rings at 400°F (200°C) for about 10 minutes.
