A rich and creamy Butter Chicken recipe filled with aromatic spices and served over fluffy rice.

- 1 pound boneless chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Salt to taste
- Cooked rice, for serving
- Fresh cilantro, for garnish
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat until it bubbles gently.
- Sauté the chopped onions, garlic, and ginger until the onions are soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Brown the chicken pieces until golden brown on all sides.
- Sprinkle in the garam masala, turmeric, cumin, and chili powder; cook for another minute.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, salt, and stir until combined; bring to a gentle simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low, stir in the heavy cream, and let simmer for 15 minutes.
- Serve the Butter Chicken over steamed rice, garnished with fresh cilantro.
Notes
For a spicier version, add more chili powder or some cayenne pepper. Chicken thighs can be used for a juicier dish.
