Description

Deliciously soft and fluffy, these no-knead buttermilk dinner rolls are perfect for soaking up gravies or enjoyed warm with butter.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar until well combined.
  2. Pour in the warmed buttermilk and melted butter. Crack in the egg, and mix with a spatula until a shaggy, sticky dough comes together.
  3. Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel. Let rise at room temperature for 12-18 hours, until it’s bubbly and puffy on top.
  4. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a baking dish by greasing it with some butter or cooking spray.
  5. Turn out the dough onto a floured surface. With floured hands, gently turn and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a round roll and place them in the greased baking dish, ensuring they touch slightly.
  6. Cover the shaped rolls and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until they’ve puffed up beautifully.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the tops turn golden brown and the aroma fills your kitchen.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

For an even richer flavor, brush the tops with melted butter right as they come out of the oven.
