- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup pizza sauce
- 1 cup sliced pepperoni
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: Italian seasoning
Instructions
- Cook the macaroni: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Make the roux: In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in the flour for about 1 minute.
- Whisk in the milk: Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
- Incorporate the cheese: Remove from heat and stir in the shredded mozzarella until melted, then mix in the pizza sauce.
- Combine everything: Add the cooked macaroni and sliced pepperoni, stirring well to coat.
- Bake to perfection: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mixture to a baking dish, sprinkle with extra cheese and pepperoni, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
