A classic Italian dish featuring al dente spaghetti tossed in a rich and savory meat sauce, perfect for family gatherings or special occasions.
Ingredients
Scale
- Spaghetti
- 1 lb Ground Beef
- 1 Onion, finely chopped
- 3 Garlic cloves, minced
- 1 Carrot, diced
- 1 Celery stalk, diced
- 28 oz Canned Tomatoes
- 2 tbsp Tomato Paste
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 2 Bay Leaves
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese, grated
Instructions
- Cook the Spaghetti: Fill a large pot with water, adding a generous pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook the spaghetti according to package instructions. Make sure to stir occasionally to prevent sticking!
- Heat the Olive Oil: In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.
- Sauté the Vegetables: Add finely chopped onion, minced garlic, diced carrot, and celery to the skillet. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables soften and release their delicious aromas.
- Brown the Ground Beef: Stir in the ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until nicely browned, about 8-10 minutes.
- Add Tomatoes: Stir in the canned tomatoes and tomato paste. Sprinkle in the bay leaves, salt, and pepper. Let your sauce come to a gentle simmer.
- Simmer the Sauce: Reduce the heat and allow the sauce to simmer uncovered for at least 30 minutes.
- Serve: Once your spaghetti has cooked, drain it and toss it with your sauce. Plate it up, generously topping each dish with grated parmesan cheese.
Notes
Make-ahead: You can prepare the sauce a day in advance. Customize with your favorite vegetables or proteins.
