Description

Delightful meatballs coated in a glossy sweet and sour sauce, balancing savory umami flavors and tropical sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef or pork
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 can pineapple chunks (optional)
  • Cooked rice or noodles for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, and minced garlic. Mix gently but thoroughly.
  2. Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs, ensuring they’re compact.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine soy sauce, pineapple juice, vinegar, and brown sugar. Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves completely.
  4. Carefully add the meatballs to the simmering sauce. Turn them to coat generously and let them simmer for about 20 minutes.
  5. If using pineapple chunks, add them in during the last five minutes of cooking.
  6. Serve over cooked rice or noodles and enjoy!

Notes

You can prepare the meatballs and sauce a day in advance for enhanced flavor. Experiment with cooking methods like baking or air frying.
